Candidates Are All Atwitter – City Room Blog – NYTimes.com
I got home from the Campaign for Liberty Regional Conference and I found a pamphlet pinned to my door from Marvin Gold and Linda Dobbins who are running for Township Supervisor. They had scrawled a little note saying they were sorry to miss me and please consider them on election day. I searched for them on Twitter and found nothing. Marvin does have a Facebook profile… with 2 friends!
Let’s consider what they could have done differently. In addition to the note they could have included their Social Networking profile. My curiosity would be piqued and I would add them to my Facebook and Twitter pages. Their news feeds would have to do with what’s going on in the community and what they would like to accomplish. I would start learning about the issues of the day AND I would grow very accustomed to the names Gold and Dobbins. Even if I don’t read their tweets and updates, just getting familiar with their names would be valuable. When election day comes by, I’d see their names, feel familiarity and pull the lever for them.
As it is, I will most likely forget and go on with my life. They had a chance to connect and they missed it.
