Get Your Business a Blog

According to Pyra Labs Blogger, “A blog is a web page made up of usually short, frequently updated posts that are arranged chronologically—like a what’s new page or a journal.”  It’s an awesome way to communicate with your customers and prospects.

I can talk about how it’s a great way to share your company’s expertise and build loyalty and it is… but I am not.  You see I have a pet peeve.  I go to a company’s Web site and in the footer there is a line of text that drives me and every other potential customer crazy.  You know what I am talking about: COPYRIGHT © 2007, BUSINESS NAME. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED 2007!?!?!  Is that the last time you updated?  How do I even know I should believe any of the information if it was last touched in 2007!  Can we all say, “STALE!”

A blog can easily fix this issue.  A new article once a week or once a month.  Something to let visitors (AND GOOGLE) know you are still alive.  Heck, if the content has some quality and value, YOU MAY EVEN SEE THE VISITOR RETURN!  And that would be a good thing.  And did you notice how I included Google in the sentence before?  When Google sees you are updating and publishing— you get instant credibility and your results will spring up higher in search results.  Yeah, we want that to happen.

Let’s consider something else, ok?  You post a new blog entry and then you go to Twitter and Facebook and post an entry that says, “Hey I just posted a new entry on my blog!”  All your friends and followers will be alerted.  Talk about “top of mind” awareness!  Isn’t that something we are all after?  So your friends and followers are alerted of this new blog entry and some may even be curious enough to click that link.  NOW THEY ARE ON YOUR WEB PAGE!  And maybe they will look around.  Let’s hope your content is good!  You may have them now starting to think about how much they could use your new product or service.  Yeah, that would be awesome!

So want to take my hand?  Let me lead you to this marvelous new concept!  You can feel safe, I started blogging in 1998!
