I recently performed a makeover on LinkedIn-Makeover’s Website! I had been quite happy with the old look but I really wanted to make it look more professional and more attractive to professionals and executives. Out went the light blue and in came navy! I’m very happy with the new look and it appears to be working because sales have doubled!

Talk Healthy To Me

Just finished my latest masterpiece! Cindy and I met at a local networking group and she mentioned how she wanted to really increase her Internet presence. I mentioned that I thought she should get into Facebook and Youtube. I think I piqued her curiosity because we got together (over a couple of afternoons) and I tricked out her Facebook page and we recorded a couple cute videos that we uploaded to YouTube in which she talked about her favorite healthy products. Oh wait, did I mention Cindy is a Holistic Health Counselor? We got the pages integrated so that she uploads videos once a week to YouTube and then posts them to Facebook.

And then Cindy had the terrific idea of expanding her Website! Why keep those videos and links to just Facebook? This time we talked at length about how she wanted the site to look. She gave me addresses to sites she liked and didn’t like. I noticed that all the sites she liked were built on the WordPress Thesis theme… and I just happen to have a developer’s copy of Thesis! So next thing I know, I’m up to my elbows in Thesis! Cindy visited Mr Frank Pronesti at Heirloom Studio and he took AMAZING, gorgeous portraits of her that we used on the Website AND Facebook. Once it was up and running, I trained her on how to update it HERSELF!!! There’s links to all her Social Media profiles AND tons of ways her potential customers can stay connected with her. We still have more things we want to do– one of which is putting some e-commerce into the site but we’ll get to that a bit later. Right now, I am just so happy with how the Website turned out and I know Cindy loves it too!

Greater Philadelphia Small Business Consulting Group

The Greater Philadelphia Small Business Consulting Group asked me to help them develop a strong Web presence. First thing we did was TRAINING. I spent time with them as a group talking about Social Media and the different networking sites out there. We talked about Facebook and Twitter and LinkedIn and forums and podcasts and blogs and video sharing and photo sharing and tagging and so many other things. And then I got to work on their Website. Rather than revamping what they had, we decided to register a totally new domain name and start from scratch. I made sure that their new Social Media profiles were front and center. This way prospects and customers can easily connect with them and stay connected. I didn’t design this WordPress theme but I did customize it. Sometimes the real work isn’t the actual design but getting the site built and finding the right content. The Website is connected to each Consultant and to their Social Media Profiles. When new blog posts are added, the posts automatically update Facebook and Twitter. A large portion of the blog posts have already been written and are scheduled to publish throughout the year. I will continue to work with them for the next 6 months making sure they are adapting to the Website and using their Social Networking profiles.

Rex is a small business marketing consultant based in West Chester, PA. Rex wanted a Website that would showcase his business and help him gain a stronger presence on the Web. I helped Rex register a domain name and I found a WordPress theme that he liked. I installed WordPress, customized the theme and built the pages using the content that Rex created. We linked all of Rex’s Social Media profiles to his Website so it would act as a hub to all his other Internet profiles. As Rex comes up with blog entries, I am posting them for him but soon I will train him on how to maintain the site himself. Right now we are concentrating on building content. Soon we will start integrating using the Social Media profiles and later I will train him on how to maintain everything on his own. The path is a long one but we are moving down it together.

I got a phone call from two guys calling themselves Stinky and Finky. In the background I could hear horns honking.
“Okay, what do you two clowns want?” I asked.
Turns out, those clowns wanted a Website.

And not just any kind of Website. They wanted a site that is easy for them to update and one that would have action and music and blinking lights!

You guessed it. I installed WordPress! And then I got to designing the loudest Website I could imagine! We did have one little minor disagreement. They wanted music that would automatically load and play when the page opened. I met them halfway where I made it easy for the reader to click a button to hear music but I refused to have music play automatically. Because auto background music is evil.

They did have a Website at one time but it had been deleted by their hosting company long ago. I was able to find their original Website via Internet archives and I was able to salvage some of their old content. I built out the pages and filled in the content blanks where needed. I trained them on how to update the Website and make changes if needed.

A Blog Makeover

Brad contacted me because he had a blog but wasn’t happy with how it looked and he was struggling with writer’s block. He wanted to maintain the blog but he just wasn’t sure exactly how to manage it or how to promote it. The first thing I did was give him a whole new design. A design that cast him as the true professional in the eyes of his audience. Once the new design was in place I made sure there were links to his Social Media profiles and to his newsletter sign up form. Once the Social Media links were in place I made sure each profile was optimized. The Twitter profile got a customized background that matches his Buy and Sell Business Blog and I optimized his LinkedIn profile by creating an attention getting headline and fleshing out his summary section. I made sure all the profiles were linked together so when he posts a blog his Twitter gets updated as does his LinkedIn profile.

The last thing we did was sit down for a two hour session in which I took him through the new blog and showed him how to read the site statistics. We went through his different profiles and I showed him how to maintain them. We brainstormed on blog and Twitter topics and methods of prospecting via the profiles. And before I left his office, I handed him a to do list of homework items.

Mind-Body Healing Arts

I am happy to introduce my latest design, Mind-Body Healing Arts! Merle Eskowitz contacted me because she needed a Website redesign. Although she was happy with what she had, she realized she needed a more robust site and one that she could more easily update. I worked with her to design the layout and content. We even included an audio file of one of her meditation lessons. I broke out her different services onto separate pages and I urged her to give more detail on her classes.

The site is now live and Merle is happy with the results. Johnsville Centrifuge and Science Museum

I am so happy to spotlight my latest Website implementation, The Johnsville Centrifuge and Science Museum! I worked with Mark, Mike and John who are heading up the museum efforts.

The project started with a tour of their fantastic museum! Mike and Mark gave me a personal tour of the entire facility! I got to see rooms that aren’t open to the public. As a Star Wars geek and a Mid-Century Modern fan, I was giddy looking at all the retro-50/60′s space age memorabilia! Here’s a picture Mark took of me IN THE GONDOLA!

The guys had a bunch of domain names and a loose design concept but weren’t sure where to go. Their big concern was they wanted to have control of the content. They wanted keep their site updated with news and pictures but didn’t want to have to rely on someone to do it for them.

I stepped up to the plate and took their design concept and smoothed it out a bit and added some of my own flair to it. I installed WordPress (because this would give them the autonomy they craved) and created their pages. I loaded it up with a bunch of useful widgets and gave them a Flash header. They were dabbling in some social networking stuff and so we decided to take a couple more steps in that direction. I set up a Twitter account for them and recommended they get started with Flickr. Once the profiles were in place, I connected their blog to their Facebook page and connected their Facebook page to Twitter.

Last night, in a marathon session fueled by chocolate chip cookies, I trained them on WordPress so they could post content and make edits to their site. I also trained them on Twitter. They wanted to immediately follow Ron Howard and Tom Hanks! (I think they were fans of the Apollo 13 movie!) Looking at their faces, I could see how happy they were and I was so happy I could help them!

I can’t tell you how much of a joy working on this Website was for me! The guys were so great to work with– their enthusiasm was absolutely contagious! And I got to learn so much about our area’s history with the space program! And I now know more than I ever thought I would ever know about G-forces!

I definitely recommend checking out their museum. It’s great for kids but equally great for adults who love space and science and all things 50′s and 60′s. It amazes me that the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo astronauts trained right here in Warminster, Bucks County! They are open almost every Sunday afternoon. If you go, make sure you tell them that Astronaut Donna from DonnaTechDesigns sent ya!

I was approached by WebEyeCare to help them get their blog and social media profiles in order. They were using a default layout from TypePad and their Social Media profiles needed some work. The first thing I did was work on their blog. I took their new logo and created them a new design. Once that was done I created a customized Twitter Background. Then I created a Facebook Page for them. I trained them on how to use it and I worked with them to build a new audience and develop a voice on Facebook.

The exciting part of this is they have seen a number of people joining their page to request their 5% Facebook discount! They are now hooking these one time customers and turning them into long term relationships!
